Septima is the Mendoza, Argentine project of the Spanish Cava (sparkling wine) giant Codorníu Group of Spain, who purchased the estate in 1999. At present Septima has 100 hectares of vineyards situated at 1,100 metres above sea level. The Septima vines are on virtually flat land, characterized by a shortage of water and a continental climate. The soil has a good layer of stony humus that is highly appropriate for vines to take root and also contains suitable characteristics for red-wine grape varieties.

At present the Agrelo estate is planted with Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo grape varieties. Septima’s fermentation room contains stainless steel tanks and 400 Bordeaux barrels for ageing wine; this supply of wooden containers is shortly to be increased to 1,500.
